African Wind

Chapter14

Another Face of South Africa

AFRICAN JAG PROJECTA Happy New Year
A Happy New Year
I ought to keep doing my best with this essay series in the year 2008 in a hope for you to know more about Africa through “Afrcan Wind.”
Hope you stick around!!
Now I would like to start the year with the photo exhibition we did at Unice Cafe in Daikanyama, Tokyo from December 01-03 last year.
AFRICAN JAG PROJECTInside the cafe, aside from the photos of African children, we displayed statues, textiles, and African artworks to produce the African atmosphere. Being careful not to destroy the cozy atmosphere within the cafe, we placed a JAG pamphlet & a postcard-sized photo book on each table. Considering the fact that Daikanyama is a town of latest trends for young generations, I tried not to be too pushy, rather to let them feel something through the photos as well as the whole space. It was an exhibition where I focused on letting people to check the photo book, to see the photos there & to read the messages from the children in Africa while waiting for orders, and having a tea time at the tables. I was hoping it to be a chance for people to know, that something could start from there…something could change….
And so, in this chapter of “African Wind,” I would like to introduce you to a part of the photo book we placed on the tables at the photo exhibition.
